There are many affiliate marketing web sites on the Internet today. It is hard to know which one to use. We all get email after email asking to join another affiliate marketing site. My inbox is full of them nearly everyday. Choosing the right one to market is a hard thing to do. It is just too hard to tell what is real and what is a scam.

We all work hard for our money and do not want to waste it on something that is not going to work. The testimonials that you read may not be real. The money that you are promised to make probably is not true either. There are real opportunities out there. There are people actually making money on the Internet. The trick is to find out what it is you need to do to actually succeed.

Why would you want to participate in an affiliate program? It gives you the ability to work part time from your home. You can claim owning a small business on your taxes. Also, if you join one that you are actually able to make work for you, you will have a nice residual income with very little work involved. The Internet has actually made millionaires from affiliate programs.

Here are some tips that may help you to choose an affiliate program that will work for you.

1. You will want to choose a program that has great resources and tools to help you succeed. You will want these to be included in the price to join if there is one.
2. You will want to choose a program that has experts associated with it. You can research the Internet to search for the names of the gurus.
3. Choose a program that might be related to interest that you have already. It could be a product that you are interested in purchasing. It might also interest other people that you know.
4. You will want to check the compensation plan. You should not waste your time on a program that does not offer a good percentage in payout, say 30% or more. Also, there should be a residual income.
5. You should avoid programs that require you obtain some high minimum quota before you can make any money at all.
6. If the program offers good incentives for people to remain customers is a good thing as well.
7. An affiliate program that offers great technical and program support is a big plus. It is nice to have someone that you can speak to who can answer your questions and give you the support you need to succeed.
8. See if the program offers a discussion forum. This gives you the chance to ask others what they like and dislike about being a member of the program.

Doing research about affiliate programs is important before you decide to join one. Having information first can save you from making a mistake and losing more of your hard-earned money.
